InterNACHI® inspectors are trained and certified by the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, the world’s largest association of residential and commercial property inspectors. InterNACHI® provides its members with accredited training and education, free benefits, expert advice, and peer support—all to help them serve their homeowner-clients with the highest-quality inspections for their largest investments.
InterNACHI® School is also a Member College of the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) of Canada, a national association representing more than 500 regulated career colleges across Canada.
Moreover…InterNACHI® School (internachi.edu) is the only home inspector college accredited by ACCET - Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training, a national accrediting agency of the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). The Home Inspector Certificate Program awards the Certified Professional Inspector CPI® federal certification credential in compliance with USDE standards. Like Harvard and other career colleges.
As an InterNACHI® Certified Professional Inspector®:
My standard home inspection is an evaluation of the visible and accessible interior and exterior structure, systems and components. Your report will include my findings of any material defects I discover in an easy-to-read format. I will also provide my recommendations for monitoring, repair or replacement. My job isn’t finished until you understand everything in your report.
For the Home Buyer
A home is probably the largest purchase you'll ever make, so it's important to understand the condition of your investment. I will provide a non-invasive examination of the home’s accessible structure, systems and components. While a home inspection is not a prediction of future conditions, and cannot reveal every concern that exists (or ever could exist), it will significantly reduce your anxiety by arming you with the knowledge you need to make an informed home-buying decision.
Are you selling your home? Let me inspect it before you even list it. A Move-In Certified Seller Inspection alerts you to any defects or problems with your home so that you can address them before prospective buyers discover them. You can then take the time you need to obtain reasonable repair estimates. Show prospective buyers that you're dealing in good faith. Avoid 11th-hour negotiations and delays, and justify your full asking price by having your home pre-inspected now.
Your reputation is your most valuable asset. Your clients rely on you to guide them through a complicated and sometimes stressful process. Demonstrate to them that their trust in you is justified by referring them to me. As an InterNACHI® Certified Professional Inspector®, my experience, training and professionalism will deliver the information your clients need. The best advertising is a happy client.
I will provide a personalized inspection of your home. Contact me today to schedule your inspection!
Like all home inspectors today there is a basic level of training that is required by the Government of Alberta. This can be done by in-class or online training.
There are courses that anyone can purchase and attend, where they will learn what to look for but they are not provided with the kind of education that teaches the "why" that affords them greater understanding of the process in its entirety.
Through InterNACHI training one has to understand the history and components behind the deficiency, so that a more precise diagnosis of the issue can be made. This entails over 200 hours of training, multiple testing that a minimum of 80% is required to pass, and a two part proctored final exam (3 hours each) in which a minimum 80% must be achieved to pass. Then a proctored practical final exam on an actual live home inspection.
Also, I have spent many extra hours with Alberta Master Inspectors in conversation and inspections. This has allowed additional hands on training and shadowing the field on real houses. I have gone above the minimum standard and continue to learn and grow with further education, training, and consultations with CMIs
My wife and I have been in the Calgary area for more than 20 years with deep childhood roots in the area. We have raised two children here and this area is our home.
We have experienced the boom and bust cycles over the years. We have bought and sold houses and have experienced the joys of a good sale and purchase, and the sorrows of market fluctuation.
By watching what has happened in the home building industry we are committed to making sure that the home you buy is a sound purchase by being fully aware of the observable potential issues. It is so important to have a home that will last, as your family situation changes over the years. We have your back.
I have an extensive background in the area of home building, supervising, renovation, property management, high end renovations and system maintenance of small and large scale homes. From being the general contractor who has overseen every aspect of a home build (being hands on with every trade from start to finish) to being in the trenches of day to day issues (toilet repair, furnace troubleshooting, Boiler monitoring) I have extensive experience to draw from.
Whole home and property care, building system procedures, life span of materials, knowledge of construction concepts, knowledge of each sub trade and specializing in water drainage with years of service in the Calgary area are all a part of my 15 years plus experience and knowledge.
My personal style is best described by Relationship Expert and long time friend Norm Quantz when he says:
“Dan communicates in an easy, gentle, and clear manner with an ability to explain complex issues within a simple to understand conversation. He has experience as a trained personal coach where he has had a proven track record of equipping clients to grasp pertinent concepts. He tells it like it is. Dan is an honest, personable, and intelligent business owner exuding personal care and concern for his clientele.” - Norm Quantz, MA
There are many things to know about when buying a house for the first time and it can all be quite overwhelming. Interacting with all the different professionals in order to bring it to fruition is a very steep learning curve. One might begin to question "Am I doing the right thing?"
I want to make the Home Inspection process easy and simple for you to understand. Not only the inspection, but what it is to own a home from a day to day maintenance perspective. I will take what ever time you need, so that you are confident in moving forward with your home investment, even if we have to go for a coffee after the inspection to allow the time you need to ask all the questions you need answered. That is my commitment to you!
Just let me know you are a first time home buyer when you book me so I can schedule the day for you!

Definition of a Home Inspection
A general home inspection is a non-invasive, visual examination of the accessible areas of a residential property (as delineated below), performed for a fee, which is designed to identify defects within specific systems and components defined by these Standards that are both observed and deemed material by the inspector. The scope of work may be modified by the Client and Inspector prior to the inspection process.
I. The general home inspection is based on the observations made on the date of the inspection, and not a prediction of future conditions.
II. The general home inspection will not reveal every issue that exists or ever could exist, but only those material defects observed on the date of the inspection.
A material defect is a specific issue with a system or component of a residential property that may have a significant, adverse impact on the value of the property, or that poses an unreasonable risk to people. The fact that a system or component is near, at, or beyond the end of its normal, useful life is not, in itself, a material defect.
A general home inspection report shall identify, in written format, defects within specific systems and components defined by these Standards that are both observed and deemed material by the inspector. Inspection reports may include additional comments and recommendations.
OUR INSPECTIONS COVER THE FOLLOWING AREAS AS DEFINED BY THE STANDARDS OF PRACTICE ACCORDING TO InterNACHI and the Alberta Government.
Roof, Exterior, Basement, Foundation, Crawlspace, Structure, Heating, Plumbing, Electrical, Fireplace, Attic, Insulation, Ventilation, Doors, Windows and Interior
